D-Series Potential

D-Series Potential
My buddy has a 1995 EJ Civic (DX) 5-speed. His car is painfully slow...he has an intake and exhaust. He doesn't have the money to buy a new motor for a swap. Plus, his current motor only has 17,000 miles on it (chassis 186K). His last motor hydrolocked due to a CAI.
What performance options are there for him that would give him reasonable performance for the dollar? He doesn't want to run nitrous either.

The EX kits will work on the DX motors with a little modification. I believe the charge pipe placing is a bit different.

thers also head swaps for vtec if you dont have it already. and ignition upgrades, grounding kits, better plug wires. all kinds of small things you can do for a few extra ponies. but alot of people will tell ya that a DOHC swap is your best option if you wanna run with the DOHC HP range. But yes TURBO or SC is a great way to increase the HP on single cam. im currently having a Y8 head ported and polished honed and bored. and plan on forced induction when taxes come back then ill post my E.T's so everyone has an idea of what some SOHC mods and a turbo at 8lbs. daily driver can do.
