EX/Si
I don't have *extensive* knowledge of transmissions, but is a fact that the EX/Si trannies are more aggressively geared than the DX tranny.

Besides...the B7 tranny wouldn't be an improvement for him.

Since you asked here is pretty much any person with d series engines best choices. Either an 5th gen Ex/Si tranny, or the 6th gen Ex tranny. The differences are the 5th gen Si has a slightly taller final drive if I remember than the 5th gen Ex tranny. The 6th gen Ex has the same final drive as the Si tranny but it has a Steel shift fork. So the best tranny IMHO is the 6th gen EX tranny.

Yes, the individual gears are very similar, but the final drive is the big difference.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. That the gearing is shorter or more aggressive in the EX/Si transmissions is a fact. I don't know the math behind it, but my understanding of gear ratios is that a change (numerically) in the tenth's place of a gear's ratio is relatively significant.

If the B7 tranny is one of the most aggressive you've felt/driven, that's fine, I'm not saying you're wrong. My only point originally was that you must never have ridden in a car without econmy gearing.

I don't know what you're thinking about, but the USA is the land of the Chrysler 426 Hemi, the Chevy 409, the Ford 428, the Caddy 500... lots and lots of big displacement N/A motors.

As for Japan, how about the Mitsu 4G63 Turbo, Toyota 7MGTE, Mazda 13BT, Nissan RB26DETT... hell, even the old Honda City Turbo engine.

JDM = Turbo.

The EX/Si has a better second, third, and final. That's a huge improvement in my book, esp. the final.
