No, ur right - my old POS d16z6 always hit at 4800. BTW, the reason you are having trouble hearing it engauge is because you are using a Cold Air intake instead of a Hot air intake - Hot air intakes are the ones where you can REALLY hear VTEC hit.
it was a Dyno Jet. Is there a big difference b/t the number on different dynos
Mine was pretty much the same when I dynoed my D16Z6 (with short intake and D15B7 exhaust)....113hp, about 98lb-ft. Whenever I get more money, I'll dyno it again with the exhaust, etc.
I have never heard my vtec engage on my D16Z6. It feels like it pulls slightly harder, but hardly noticible. I have a short ram intake.
I've always heard mine engage. It sounds like its sucking in air before VTEC, and then after, the sound just goes away. What short ram do you have? I have an Injen and its very noticeable....its a little less now that I have the Prothane motor mounts and exhaust, but still noticeable.
