Default Air Bag

Ok guys here's what I need to do. I am in the process of fiberglassing my whole dash. and I removed the airbag in the steering wheel as fast as I could to put a MOMO Trek in it's place, but as for the passenger airbag, I kinda want to leave that in. is there a way to remove it without popping it, so I can make the mold then re install it in the stock location, and have my fiberglass piece bolt in around it?

thanks

Mark

Default sorry, no pics yet

no sorry no pics yet, I only have half the dash frammed out. ( the drivers side), I am waiting on the passenger side, once I make sure I can remove the airbag without popping it.

they make block-off trays for the passenger airbag over in JDM land.

www.passwordjdm.com might have them, but not too sure.

run a google search, and it might pull up some hits.

I've also seen gauge pods that fit there on ebay before, but I dunno if those ever took off or not.

no, I don't want to eliminate the airbag, I just want to remove it without popping it so I can make a fiberglass mold, and re install it in the factory location. I have seen those airbag covers too, and if it comes down it it, one will get installed, hell I will never be sitting there anyway

thing is, I dunno how fiberglass on top of the airbag would cause it to act in the event of deployment, especially for the person in shotgun.

just my opinion, but I think you'd be better off without it....

thats the thing, I won't be glassing over the airbag itself, will just be making a cutout in the fiberglass so it sits flush, and will probably sand off the texture on the airbag cover, and paint it to match, I have painted other dashes before this way and if you prep it properly, it comes out nice. I just have never removed an airbag before, the one I did was sanded in place, and masked off for paint.

Default heh heh

yeah I get it, I don't like screwing shit up. uif it's a small mod I'll wing it, but for sometihing where I am cutting existing wiring to extend it, I'd rather know it can be done rather than spending the time to wire it up, and glassing in the center console to accomodate the HVAC, and then finding out that I have to re mount it in the stock location, and having to redo my center console.

:chuckles:
