I've had about 4 different V-drive alpine head units and I've never ran it direct to the battery

They recommend it but it is not needed.

:werd:

my clarion deck has something similar. I just ran the two wires to the same power off the harness. But then again, I don't use the internal amplifier, either....

:werd: the head unit that I had stolen out of my car was a V-drive alpine and I also never ran a seperate wire....the factory wire is sufficient

hey, i just installed my system today with a buddy. i've got a 97 coupe. to the bottom right of the battery there is a large(half dollar size maybe?) rubber cover, pop that off and there is a nice hole. the hole comes out behind your glove box. you don't have to remove the glove box to see it, but its up behind it a bit. i've got lots of pictures from my install that i'll post in a day or two. total install time: 6 hours

kept getting a red light on the amp(meant there was a fault) turned out it was the ground connection. fishing the wires underneath the door sill took the longest, we wern't able to completely remove the sill, just have it popped up an inch or so. and plus it was my first system install so i wanted to take my time with it and just be overly cautious about it

yeah, that can be a major pain in the ass.

I've discovered it helps about 100x to remove the front seats. Four bolts, and vola, easy access to running wires under the carpet area.
