do it yourself. I called a couple shops when I did mine because I just didn't want to deal with all of it. They all said about 2 grand just for labor. That's when I got off my ass.
There are a few things that you should know. If you like your reverse lights, get ready for some time consuming wiring. Finding all the parts is easy. Knowing what parts you need is not.
If you stay with your current engine (which for some reason the auto Si's are much more peppy once converted than any 5spd Si to start with, trust me from experience, done two) then you will need the following:
90+flyhweel
Clutch of your choice
tranny-normally find an Si with low miles for around $200
tranny upper and front motor mounts
shift linkage assembly with shifter and bushings (best found at junkyard as one piece)
clutch pedal
brake and gas pedal if you want to do it right and not just cut the foot area of the brake pedal (real wide, gets in teh way of the clutch)
clutch MC
hydraulic lines from MC-along firewall-to the slave cylinder
slave cylinder

You can use the same axles, hasport had a write up on how to modify the auto ecu, there are a few wiring tricks to make the key not lock in the ignition, etc, etc. But that's the jist of it. I did mine as a fisrt time, experimental sort of swap after collecting parts over 2 weekends, and then doing all the installing over another 2 weekends. I found NO info online to help, so the chilton, haynes, and helms manuals became my bathroom reading material. Needless to say, I learned a lot. lol If you want to know how to track down any wiring in the car, I know how to do it, or I can glance at the manual and remember. It got that bad.... lol

I can't say it enough. Bakeoff knows his stuff

You can do it yourself, if you know how and it won't cost that much. Me on the other hand, I don't trust myself with that kind of labour intensive stuff. I get too frustrated.

lol, thanks man!
I ended up throwing a rod in my hatch on friday. Picked up another motor tuesday, got it to my buddy's house at 9pm, had the motor out in less than an hour and a half, with help just when I was jacking it out, and a few smoke/beer breaks along the way. Then we partied the rest of the night, I woke up at 3:30 today, kinda dinked around swapping parts over to the new motor, and I'll get back out there some time tonight to get it in the car. I love being on vacation for a week! Perfect time to blow an engine!

No crx is crap! lol Unless you're talking about the one Soltaker's buddy had! Might still be posted somewhere on here. But yeah, on a daily driver, it's a pretty risky adventure for a newb to swaps. If you were just dropping a B into a 5spd sol, I'd say go for it. This is not anywhere as easy.

wht not from a b16a into your sol? Just need to add the knock sensor, and run a p72 ecu... Well, that and the tranny, and what not.

because if i screw up on my $6,000 car i'm screwed. if i screw up on a $1,000 i'll be ok, it would be a learning experience. anyway i don't even have garage space, cherry picker, tools, ect. it is just a far off dream like me wanting to build my own go-kart. :driving:
